There's No Native Creative Diagnostic for Video. So What?

Creative · October 25, 2026

This is a concept being scoped, not a shipped tool.

The gap

For Search, Google Ads gives you Quality Score, which affects auction cost, and Ad Strength, a pre-launch checklist that doesn’t affect the auction. People often treat these as the same thing. They aren’t.

For Video, Display and Demand Gen, there’s no equivalent diagnostic telling you why a creative is underperforming. That’s the gap.

The two-layer design

Layer 1: Search and Performance Max. Light. Uses signals the API already exposes, like Ad Strength and asset performance labels.

Layer 2: Video, Display, Demand Gen. Where the value is. Each creative is scored on attributes like hook strength, branding timing, message clarity, CTA placement, pacing and tone, and those scores are then compared against actual historical performance.

The goal isn’t a score. It’s learning which creative attributes correlate with results in a given market.

The fragile dependency

Scored creatives have to be joined to performance data by asset ID. If assets aren’t tagged consistently at upload, the join fails and the analysis is worthless. That has to be confirmed before anything gets built.

The most important step in a data project is often checking whether the data you’re assuming actually exists.
